Cody Toppert is an Ivy League educated, former professional basketball player, currently serving as Assistant Coach for the Houston Rockets NBA D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Cody has unique ability to enhance, teach, refine and impact the mindset and abilities of some of the top players in the sport.
HOUSTON ROCKETS/RGV VIPERS, Assistant Coach; Texas 2015-Present
Serves as the offensive coordinator of the leagues second ranked offense (116.3 PPG, 20.5 APG), while leading the player development of the guards. Cody is an integral part of the team’s scouting and video efforts pertaining to opponent prepara- tion and post game improvement. He assisted with the development of Rockets assignees KJ McDaniels, Montrezl Harrell, Sam Dekker and Donatas Montiejunas. Under Cody’s supervision the RGV Vipers produced 2 NBA D-League All-Stars in Will Cummings and Raphael Putney as well as NBA Call-Up Jordan Hamilton.
Cody also assists the Rockets Front office with various scouting projects pertaining to the evaluation of teams and play- ers heading into the offseason and free agency. In addition to assisting on matters pertaining to the Rockets he is also a valuable member of the player evaluation process leading up to the NBA D-League draft.
NBA SUMMER LEAGUE
Cody assisted the Rockets staff during the 2016 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, working with the young players during practice sessions and assisting with in game coaching and strategy.

Cody worked the prestigious 2016 GRG camp in Las Vegas, working with some of the NBA’s best young players and along side some of the NBA’s best coaches.

Served as the lead trainer and recruiter for the ELEV|8 NBA Pre Draft and NBA/International off season training program. Cody has worked closely with over 20 NBA players. His duties included working on a regular basis with Agents, Scouts and players. 10 of these players were selected in the 2015 NBA draft, 5 were selected in 2014 and 3 were selected in 2013. Cody is well known for his work with Tyler Johnson, who recently signed the largest contract for an undrafted NBA player in league history.

Cody has extensive playing experience at high levels in some of the top countries in the world. Cody was coached by two former NBA Champions (Scott Wedman, Michael Cooper) and 09-10 Clair Bee Coach of the Year, NABC District 4 Coach of the Year and Ivy League coach of the year (Steve Donahue). During this time he gained a unique knowledge of the game, which he saw from many different perspectives.
Cody speaks both Spanish and English. He has extensive experience using SportsTec (Sports Code), Krossover and Synergy video editing software to produce highlights, scouting edits and game clips. Cody is also exceptional with Fast Draw playbook software. His other computer experience includes maintaining his own website and working with most standard applications including Excel, Powerpoint and others.
